So often on social media and in advertisements we only see the showy postures of yoga-- handstand, big backbends, arm balancing, etc. I post those kinds of pictures sometimes, too. But in all honesty one of my favorite postures is Adho Mukha Svanasana- downward facing dog. It's a surprisingly difficult posture that requires every part of the body to be involved. One of the things I love about this posture, though, is the way it allows me to withdraw from the outside world and focus my attention inward to sense into the deeper feeling state. It allows me to feel my breath and sense into the subtle energy of my present condition. After just a minute of holding downward facing dog I feel a great sense of equanimity, and my scattered energy gets grounded. So. Here's to the simple poses that have big impact. Thank you downward facing dog for your persistent call to come back home to myself.
